Tomorrow marks the official start of the Christmas season in Baltimore, as our very own Washington Monument becomes awash in holiday lights.

Now in its 39th year, the Mount Vernon event features local entertainers, food, and holiday activities. The holiday village featuring food and crafts vendors will open in Mount Vernon's West park on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. The entertainment on stage will begin at 6 p.m. and the monument lighting and fireworks display will occur at 7 p.m.

Task Force to Study Ways to Improve School Buildings

Ravens Game at 4:15 on Sunday

A quick heads up. The NFL announced a few weeks ago that it was changing the start of the Ravens game Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium to 4:15.

Originally the game had been scheduled for 1 p.m. Baltimore is taking on Tampa Bay, and the game is now a nationally televised one on Fox.

Someone Broke into the Wrong Car

This might be the first-ever arrest in the history of the city for breaking into a car.

I exaggerate - but only slightly. I've lived in Baltimore for 10 years now, and during that (mostly lovely) decade my car has been broken into three times. Overall, I consider that not bad. I chalk it up to the cost of urban living. One time only change was taken, another time nothing at all disappeared, and on the other occasion CDs and tapes (yes, cassette tapes - shows how old I'm getting) were taken. Not once did I ever expect an arrest in the "case" or to recover my property.

The Hollywood Casino in Perryville opened last month to great fanfare. As the state's first slots parlor, people were anxious to see if the facility could indeed bring in as much cash as pro-gambling forces claimed it could during the years-long fight over the issue in Annapolis.
