Arsenic in Formula?

If you watch Dr. Oz you might remember the controversy over arsenic in apple juice last year. Now, scientists have found that organic brown rice syrup may contain high levels of arsenic.
...

Breastfeeding and C-Sections

I've had three deliveries, and although two of them were almost cesarean sections, I was able to deliver all three naturally. I feel lucky because my three closest friends have all had cesareans. It seems like I know more women who have had c-sections than natural deliveries. I guess that's not so surprising since the rate of cesarean birth in the US is about one in three.
...

Things That Influence Milk Supply

I love coffee. I shouldn't have as much as I do, especially since I am nursing, but I just can't help it.

I try to limit the caffeine. At home I make the coffee that is half decaffeinated, but then I just end up drinking twice as much. When I'm out, I can't pass a Dunkin' Donuts without stopping. I do realize that all this caffeine is not good. Caffeine passes through the breast milk, so it can cause irritability and sleep disturbances in the baby. It is also dehydrating which can affect my milk supply.
...

That’s One Distracted Baby

The world is such an interesting place to a seven month old. There is so much to see and do.

I really enjoy watching my son experience new objects and situations. His eyes shine with wonder at the simplest things. I love how his face lights up whenever he sees his sister and brother. Everything they do is just hilarious to him. His huge grin and boisterous belly laugh are sure to make an appearance whenever they're around. They are his favorite teachers. It is unbelievable how much he's learning and how fast he is growing.
...

Most of the time breastfeeding is such a beautiful experience. There is nothing like looking down at that little peaceful face, feeling the closeness and enjoying a quiet moment. But every once in a while, it can literally be a pain in the breast!
...

Breastfeeding May Lower Your Risk For High Blood Pressure

We already know that breastfeeding is best for babies, and previous studies have shown that mothers who breastfeed lower their risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and certain cancers. Now, a recent study suggests that breastfeeding moms can also benefit from a lower risk of high blood pressure.
...

Cute Breastfeeding Cover

Did you ever notice how breastfeeding covers tend to be so obvious? They look like big pieces of fabric that come in strange, bold patterns. I have always found this interesting because my main objective is to be discreet and they tend to draw even more attention to the fact that I am breastfeeding. I still have one, and I do use it when I am out, but I am really not that fond of it. Besides the pattern, it's not flattering at all and it doesn't really stay where I want it to. Using baby blankets isn't much better. At least a baby blanket is cuter and less obvious, but let's face it, it always fall down.
...

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

My very special gift this year arrived in June, and he has been such an amazing blessing in my life. Whether they just arrived, are due to arrive or have been here a while, our children are the greatest gifts. They may have received many wonderful presents from family and friends for the holidays, but as we nurse them into the New Year we are truly giving them the best gift of all.
...
