Miss Piggy: High Fashion's New Muse

She plays a French Vogue editor in next month's The Muppets Movie, but in the pages of November's InStyle magazine, Miss Piggy is all centerfold, modeling custom designs by the likes of Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung in an eight-page spread. For their part, the designers were more than game, explaining to WWD the inspirations behind their creations. "I didn't want to dress Miss Piggy in anything that would take away from her bold personality so I went with a simple, classic dress and neutral color," said Gurung of his white duchesse-silk dress, adding, "the Empire waist really complements her figure."

That's 45-year-old actress Salma Hayek insisting in the November issue of Latina magazine that she's never subjected herself to cosmetic procedures. She also insists (don't they all?) that her youthful looks are the results of good genes and good hygiene: "When I was 16, I looked 19. When I was 19, I looked 25. But I got stuck on 25 -- thank God! -- until I was 35. So that was good. But it's also important to take care of your skin because if you're not careful, one day you'll wake up and a spider will have taken over your face and you'll be full of lines."

This is either highly depressing or highly heartening, depending on where you stand on today's whole celebrity-Photoshop controversy: Back when Breakfast at Tiffany's was released, in 1961, someone at the studio thought Audrey Hepburn, then 32, needed a little smoothing over in some of the publicity stills from the movie. In a never-before-released image -- which appears in a new coffee-table book celebrating the film's 50th anniversary -- a close-up of the actress's face is marked up where retouchers went to town. Whether her faint crows'-feet and slight discoloration around the nose actually warranted airbrushing -- or whether any flaw, on anyone, ever, needs erasing -- is up for debate.
