To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Children's of Museum of Denver is featuring a special guest for storytime on Monday. Mayor Michael Hancock will read from sections of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013. Children will also receive free Willy Wonka-inspired candy donated by Lola's Sugar Rush, while supplies last. Admission to the museum is $7 - $9 depending on age.

Five Points Jazz Festival

The Five Points neighborhood in Denver will host its annual Five Points Jazz Festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. The free festival will be held between 27th Street and Welton Street, and features Denver jazz musicians such as Hazel Miller and Buckner Funken Jazz. The Five Points neighborhood has a rich jazz tradition dating back to the 1920s, and was known as the "Harlem of the West." Jazz legends such as Nat King Cole, Miles Davis and Billie Holliday performed at nightclubs along Welton Street during its heyday.

Film on the Rocks

The 14th-annual Film on the Rocks will include showings of recent hits such as "The Hunger Games" and cult classics such as "The Princess Bride." The outdoor film series held at Red Rocks will screen second-run films on selected weeknights from May 29 - Aug. 13, 2013. Advance tickets for the films are $12 through the Denver Film Society. "Nothing beats an affordable evening at Red Rocks in the summertime," said Britta Erickson, festival director for the Denver Film Society, in a statement.

June 2013 Events in Denver

Summertime in the Mile High City begins in earnest in June, with a full slate of summer festivals. The Capital Hill People's Fair and the Denver Chalk Art Festival start off the month on June 1. Later in June, Denver PrideFest and the Denver Greek Festival give Denver residents more reasons to celebrate fun in the sun. City Park Jazz also returns on June 2, while the Denver outdoor public pools open on June 8.

"The X Factor" Auditions on Tues.

Do you have a secret talent you are dying to share with the world? Auditions for the "The X Factor" will be held in Denver on Tuesday at the Denver Coliseum. To audition, entertainers will need to obtain a wristband before Tuesday at 11 a.m. by waiting in line at the Denver Coliseum. Auditions will begin Tuesday at 7 a.m., but you can obtain the wristband on Monday at the Coliseum.

Celebrate Children's Book Week

Established in 1916, Children's Book Week celebrates books for young readers. The Tattered Cover in Denver will celebrate the event with a slate of book signings, storytimes and other events for children. Both the Tattered Cover on Colfax Avenue and the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch are participating in the book week. "I think the best thing about the week is the way that publishers, booksellers, librarians, teachers, parents and caregivers, and literacy advocates all rally around the celebration of children's books and reading," said Nicole Deming, communications manager for Children's Book Week, in an email.

Southwest Movies at Skyline Park

The ninth-annual movies in the parks series launches this year with a new name, courtesy of sponsor Southwest Airlines. The 2013 Southwest Movies at Skyline Park features free second-run screenings of family films on inflatable screens in Skyline Park, located at 16th and Arapahoe. From the animated adventure "Finding Nemo" to the family classic "ET," the film series offers films rated G to PG-13 that the whole family can enjoy. Films will be shown on Saturday nights at dusk this summer from July 6 - Aug. 24, 2013.

New Phone for Denver Golf

Denver Golf has changed its phone number to 720-865-GOLF. To make a reservation for tee times, golfers can now call the number 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The City & County of Denver runs eight public golf courses in the Denver metro area, including a miniature golf course at Aqua Golf and a 9-hole golf course at Harvard Gulch. The six other golf courses offer a regulation 18-hole or 27-hole course.
