The George Washington Masonic Memorial is a great way to celebrate President's Day. Aside from its amazing views of the Washington region, it has lots of interesting historical items like the clock that sat at President Washington's bedside when he died, different desks he used during his life, and beautiful artwork that help tell the history behind Washington and the Freemasons. The Alexandria, Va.-based memorial is open 10 AM to 4 PM and costs $5 for a one-hour tour. Kids under 12 are free.

Wax Museum Tickets On Sale

I just saw that Groupon Washington, DC is offering a nice discount on tickets to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Tickets are usually over $20 but today's deal has them for around $10 a piece. Keep in mind though they expire in early June.

Another Best View in Washington

My husband and I went to the Newseum this weekend and were pleasantly surprised to find yet another great spot to take in the beauty of Washington. On the top floor of the museum is an outside deck that extends the length of the museum. From the deck you can get a clear view of the U.S. Capitol, as well as several of the beautiful buildings along Pennsylvania Avenue. Sorry the White House is a bit too far to see from the deck. I took this picture from the deck.

Heritage Family Days at Air & Space

The National Air & Space Museum has kicked off a Heritage Family Day series that features different events to celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity. The next Heritage Family Day event is Feb. 25, 2012 at the museum's Northern Virginia location. Visitors will be able to meet members of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were African American WWII pilots.

Groupon Deal for Spy Museum

Groupon is selling tickets to the International Spy Museum for $10 a piece until the end of the weekend. Entry to the museum is usually $21, so it's definitely a good value. The only catch is that the ticket has to be used by March 23, 2012, which makes it hard if your trip to the nation's capital is planned for Summer.

The Woodrow Wilson House in Washington has a traveling exhibit right now called Woodrow Wilson, President Electric: Harnessing the Power of Innovation in the Progressive Era. It explores the scientific and technological advancements during the Progressive Era through the eyes of the first family. Yet the exhibit uses modern day methods to show the history of electricity through multimedia and hands-on interactive experiences, as well as showing off some authentic artifacts.

Sunday Night Music

Did you know that every Sunday night you could hear classical chamber music at the Phillips Collection? For $20 a ticket, this Washington art gallery features 4 PM Sunday concerts from October through May. The January calendar was just released and it lists pianists who studied at the Julliard School, a mezzo soprano and American Academy of Vocal Arts resident, a Scottish bassoonist, and many more talented performers. All the shows are followed by a Q&A session with the musician. Tickets go quickly so reserve them early through the Sunday Concerts calendar.
