Even though Mardi Gras is in full swing and the parades are rolling every day, we New Orleanians are looking forward for our next fun tradition, the Wednesday Concerts in Lafayette Square. This year the concerts start on March 14th with the Honey Island Swamp Band and run every Wednesday until May 30th. The concerts are free and there's food and drink to purchase. It's no secret that we love to eat in New Orleans. So, it's not surprising that most of the email I get involves questions about where to eat on a visit to New Orleans. In all of the excitment of the Carnival Season and Mardi Gras, there's a special day with special traditions that's a must see for any first timer to Mardi Gras. It's the celebration on Lundi Gras (Fat Monday) the day before Mardi Gras. The main event happens at 6 or 6:30 when REX the King of Carnival sails down the Mississippi River to meet ZULU. The two kings meet and the Mayor officially turns over the rule of the city to REX for the next day.

Mardi Gras Goes to the Dogs

The Carnival Season is in full swing in New Orleans, with Mardi Gras balls, and parades. The city is decorated in purple, green and gold. Are New Orleanians the only people that know how well those colors go together? Anyway, the parades start in full force this weekend. In New Orleans there are 8 parades rolling this weekend, including The Mystic Krewe of Barkcus. Barkus is one of the parades for dogs. Really. It starts at Armstrong Park at 2pm this Sunday, Feburary 12th and wonders though the French Quarter. This year's theme is The 2012 theme is -- Mission: Impossible: Canine Protocol - Armstrong Bark Reloaded. So, come out and watch the dogs occupy Armstrong Park.

Mardi Gras Viewing Stand Tickets on Sale Now

Every year the City of New Orleans sets up viewing stands on St. Charles Avenue for the Mardi Gras Parades. This is a great way to see the parades if you're coming in from out of town and are not sure where to go to see the parades. The stands have access to private bathroom facilities and food and drink can be found nearby. Costs of the tickets vary according to parade, costing from $5 for the first parade to $50 for Mardi Gras Day. Some of the big Super Krewe Parade tickets sell out fast. Much of the fun of visiting a city is knowing what the natives know about where to go for food, fun and more. I'm going to let you in on the worst kept secret in New Orleans, Freret is the newest Restaurant Row. This street in the heart of Uptown New Orleans has never been on the tourists' radar, but that's about to change. In the last year so many new restaurants have opened along just a few blocks of Freret Street, that I'm having trouble keeping up with all of them, and I live in the neighborhood. So, I thought it was time I sampled them all for you and gave you a report. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. Here's what I found out.

Manning's - The Ultimate Sports Bar and Restaurant

The first family of sports in New Orleans, the Mannings, have a new project. Archie Manning has opened a new Restaurant in New Orleans, aptly named "Manning's a Great Place to Eat, Drink and Cheer." Manning's is a 210 seat restaurant connected to Harrah's Cassino . But, bring the kids, there's a separte entrance on the Fuiton Street Mall. Besides food and drink, Manning's will has a retail shop with items branded with the Manning's insignia. The restaurant features rotating memorabilia from New Orleans' favorite sports family, including personal family photos, football jerseys and helmets, along with commissioned artwork by local artist Terrance Osborne, a sports anchor desk, more than 30 flat screen televisions showing the top sporting events and concrete walkways marked with yard lines. It's a must visit on your next trip to New Orleans

March Madness In New Orleans - The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship

2012 has brought some great sporting events to New Orleans. We've had the New Orleans Bowl, The Saints playoff game, The BCS Championship Game, the Sugar Bowl, and now we're getting into March Madness. This year the NCAA Men's Championship is in New Orleans. Even though the basketball will be exciting enough, there's a lot more to the NCAA Championship. There are lots of fun events to enjoy including music and dancing.
