It feels like only yesterday that I was cradling my newborn in my arms. I remember each of those amazing few months with exquisite detail - the first smile, the first coo and who could forget that first tooth. And right along with those delightful memories are also the memories of those 8 PM - midnight squeals of displeasure -- also known as colic. Dad and I used to do the the tag-team-trade-off; pacing like zombies down a dark hallway with baby in our arms until those little lungs gave way to sleep. 3D Images May Increase Eye Discomfort

FDA Approves Botox for Chronic Migraine Treatment

After a decade of study and debate, the Food and Drug Administration has finally approved Botox to treat chronic migraines. Patients who experience debilitating migraines 14 days a month or more may experience a reduction in their symptoms with injections in the face and neck of the drug, Allergan's onabotulinumtoxinA, which was originally created to reduce wrinkles by inducing muscle contractions. The FDA's new recommendation says that treatment every 12 weeks should be sufficient for chronic migraine sufferers.

Study Confirms Link Between Migraines and Stroke

A review in the American Journal of Medicine analyzing the results of 21 previous studies found that those who regularly suffer from migraine headaches are more likely to experience ischemic stroke, in which a blockage prevents bloodflow to a part of the brain, often causing permanent damage. The risk of stroke is about twice as likely for migraine sufferers than it is for people who do not get migraines, but those with headaches should remember that the overall risk of stroke remains low.

Doctors haven't determined the reason for the connection, but nonetheless migraine patients can take action to prevent stroke by doing such things as quitting smoking and lowering cholesterol. Experts also recommend extra precautions to control diabetes and high blood pressure.
