The Federation Internationale de Rollersports (FIRS), which includes inline speed skating, roller figure skating and roller derby, is once again fighting for a spot in the 2020 Olympic Games.

A total of eight sports, including baseball and softball, the two sports that were removed after the 2008 Games will be considered. The other six sports are wakeboard, squash, sport climbing, rollersports, karate and the martial art of wushu. These sports will be evaluated in early 2013. One sport will be voted on from the final list in late 2013 at the IOC session in Buenos Aires.

She Wants To Be A Golden Girl

Not many people under 35 are thinking about becoming golden girls. At age 28, Melvindale's Jessica Lynn Smith is a member of the US World Cup short track speedskating team and is attending competitions in events in Europe. She is a 30-time World Champion and a Pan American Games Champion. In fact, Jessica has achieved almost everything an elite athlete could want except win an Olympic medal. She just wants a chance to go for the gold.

The Angle on Ankles and Feet

One of my artistic skating students was having ankle problems, and that is always a big issue for any inline or roller skater. Her weak ankle problem was resolved by changing her skating boot brand to one that provided the support needed - in the places she needed it. Now, the same skater is plagued by foot pain and blisters on her feet that seem to be caused by her low-cut speed roller derby skates (she skates art and derby)... back to the boot specialist.

A Weekend of World Inline

It is too late to enter, but not too late to watch a world of inline figure skating events - if you happen to be in France.
