Arguing with non-Muslims

Yesterday I came across two boys out walking a dog. This may seem like a natural, everyday occurrence to most people, but in Saudi Arabia it is quite an unusual sight. Muslims are known for being intolerant or even hostile towards dogs. Is this based on religious teachings? Animal Welfare in Islam

How should Muslims treat animals? Unfortunately, some Muslims push animal welfare to the bottom of priorities, with the argument that Muslims should worry about relationships among fellow human beings first and foremost. However, the life of the Prophet Muhammad was filled with concern about animal welfare, and modern psychological research proves that a person who abuses animals is more likely to abuse human beings. Organ Donation

A Saudi Islamic scholar publicly signed up as an organ donor this week, in an effort to raise awareness of the issue of organ donation in Islam. Arab News reports that Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mutlaq earlier attended a symposium about organ donation at a local hospital, before registering as an organ donor himself. Many Muslims are under the mistaken impression that organ donation is forbidden in Islam. It is true that Islam teaches us to be respectful of the dead and to bury them as soon as possible. Some people argue that donating organs in some way desecrates the body of the deceased. However, the benefits of organ donation outweigh these concerns. As Muslims, we should strive to preserve life and prevent suffering, and if donating organs can help someone in need of a transplant, that is the Islamic choice.
