It's been a long time since my kids have seen a TV commercial. We usually watch movies or recorded shows. But the other day, my six-year-old brought a smile to my face when she saw a commercial for a toy and casually remarked, "That looks fun, but I bet it doesn't work as good as they're saying it does."
...

The Secret World of Arrietty hits theaters today! In celebration of the opening of one of the best children's/family films you have seen in a long time, here are some insights from Will Arnett, who voices Pod in the movie. Pod is Arrietty's father, and what's fun about the role, is that Will's wife Amy Poehler voices the role of Arrietty's mother, Homily.
...

Here are a few of the new DVDs and Blu-rays available this week. The Lorax comes just before the new CG animated movie hits theaters next month, so we can enjoy the book and the original cartoon in anticipation of March 2. And, Dora brings us the first of the new Easter releases!
...

The Secret World of Arriety - New Clip!

I just can't say enough good things about this movie. The Secret World of Arrietty presents a great story for kids and families, and it is one of those films that reminds you that filmmaking is truly an artistic endeavor. The film has a slow and gentle pace, which is great for kids. The story is bold, the animation quaint and beautiful, and the soundtrack mesmerizing. Not to mention, the movie features a strong and brave heroine who doesn't wear make-up or kiss princes, but still has a life full of love and adventure.
...

Cteative Character Valentines

For some strange reason, my girls totally heart The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I was very inspired by these valentines from DisneyFamily.com based on the legendary Jack the Pumpkin King. Jack was completely crazed when he found out about Christmas, so it's perfectly reasonable that he dabble in Valentines Day too. If you're helping your kids do homemade valentines, these creative and unique cards would be a great option for the boys or for everyone. You could even think up a cheesy saying for the back.
...

Which Cause Do You Fight For?

The movie Big Miracle, opening today in theaters, is based on a true story about the 1988 rescue of three gray whales. Different people and organizations with different agendas came to the aid of the whale family, and the movie really brings out the fact that people can do a lot when they work together, and also that there are many different causes people get involved in. In light of the Koman/Planned Parenthood saga in the news right now, I think the subject of choosing which causes to put your time and resources behind is particularly poignant. Here are a few of the causes related to the movie:
...

So, my 6 and 9-year-olds are so over these Buddies movies, but my three-year-old is still completely on board. In this latest Buddies adventure, the pups are off to Egypt, where they are in search of a magical necklace in the lost tomb of Cleocatra. The Buddies must make it there before their new found feisty feline nemesis, or she will use the necklace to rule the world.
...

One of the things that struck me most about this movie, is how many educational veins there are running through it. This movie is a gold mine for homeschoolers, and parents and educators can find so many different things to use to teach and interest kids. If you homeschool, or like me, you are the type to try and subtly throw out educational themes for family discussions, check out this link to 10 educational topics in Big Miracle I thought would be particularly interesting for kids and families.
...
