Is the person who cuts your hair serving you well? If you find yourself going to the same barber or stylist just because it's comfortable, you may be selling yourself short. Sometimes, we just need a little nudge in the right direction. If the person who cuts your hair is guilty of sloppy work, bad service, unsanitary conditions, or they just don't offer you any new ideas, it may be time spring and summer grooming to fire your barber or stylist.

Spring and Summer Grooming

This season has been a bit of a roller coaster. As I type this, it's I've just come in from a long walk which required me to wear a jacket (it's normally in the 80's or 90's this time of year here at About.com's Mens Hair headquarters in Atlanta). While some of us are longing for a little heat, others are feeling it full force. At least mentally, my clients are preparing for spring and summer -- they're cutting it short and preparing for vacations. Spring and summer finds most of us more active and more on the go. Hairbond Product Review

I've had the opportunity to try some really amazing haircare products over the past few years, and the styling products from Hairbond are among the best I've ever tried. My nickname for Hairbond in my barber shop is "hair crack!" For the past month, I've been putting their four main styling products, Distorter, Sculptor, Shaper, and Moulder to the test and I haven't been disappointed by any of them. Brett Davern's Haircut

I was channel surfing the other night and came across a promo for MTV's Awkward television show. I really love actor Brett Davern's haircut. This is a great example of how well the right cut can balance your face shape. For this style, the hair is clipper cut close and high on the sides and back (with a bit of disconnection on the side opposite the part. This style can be worn causally tossed to the side as Brett has it in the photo, or slicked back neatly for a more formal look. Nice.

Ryan Cabrera's Hairstyle

I have to say, this is probably the worst hairstyle I've ever seen on a human male. This haircut, in my opinion, is wrong for two reasons. First, I think a great men's haircut should enhance facial features, not overpower them. For this style his hair overpowers his look -- rather than enhancing his features, the hair becomes the feature. Second, I think a great hairstyle for a guy should be one that doesn't look like he's spent hours fussing with it. It should have movement and be touchable. Not that he likely cares about my opinion, but this style is simply awful -- he should fire his hairstylist. He's a handsome guy, but you don't notice that because his hair is the focus of attention.

A fun. Haircut

I really like the group fun. (and based on the number of Grammy awards and nominations, so do a lot of other people). Jack Antonoff has been working a really fun, geeky style that I love (quirky haircut, big glasses) and it's a fairly easy haircut to give yourself at home. Just take a clipper and buzz off the sides and back and leave the top. How fun. is that? This trend will probably die fairly quickly, so get it while it's hot!
