Coping with Twin Escalation Syndrome

Does this scenario sound familiar?

Consider two school-aged twins. Their main passion in life is to amuse each other. At any normal mealtime, you'll find the following: one twin slurps his milk to get his brother's attention. Not to be outdone, his brother blows bubbles into his cup. Twin One ups the ante by standing up in his chair to sing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" while gargling his milk. Then, when Twin Two stands in his chair to attempt an even more outrageous stunt, he stumbles and knocks his milk over. Twin One laughs uproariously until he snorts milk out of his nose. Mom and Dad shake their heads (and fists!) in frustration, victims yet again of Twin Escalation Syndrome.

Proponents praise the benefits, including convenience for breastfeeding and enhanced self-esteem. With twins or multiples, parents may find that the bed is simply too crowded. Virginia Conjoined Twins Separated in Historic Surgery

Six-month-old conjoined twins A'zhari and A'zhiah Jones were successfully separated in a 14-hour surgery on Monday, April 22nd. Surgeons and physicians at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia completed the historic surgery. The procedure to divide the girls' connected hearts was the final step in a phased process of separation beginning shortly after their birth in October 2012. The Jones twins' separation was significant as one of the only documented successful, phased-separation surgeries of twins sharing vital organs and conjoined at the abdomen and heart.
