Remember WorldCause Foundation's Dream Mustang Giveaway? Last year they gave away two Boss Mustangs. Well, they're back with a new raffle for 2012. The new raffle, which benefits the Paralyzed Veterans Outdoor Fund and Henry Ford Health System: Men's Health Initiatives, features two sharp looking GT500 Mustangs. One is a classic 1967 Shelby in immaculate condition, while the other is a one-of-a-kind modern day 2012 GT500 Shelby with 750 hp under the hood. Both are Raven black with red stripes, autographed by Carroll Shelby. No doubt, they are easy on the eyes! The winner will also get $50,000 to cover income tax withholding. Talk about a deal.

Wanted: Good Customer Service and Quality Work

I've owned many Mustangs over the years. In addition to being a Mustang owner, I'm a home owner. Speaking of homes, I had a bad experience with a contractor several years ago. What started off as a good business relationship quickly deteriorated when the contractor ripped out baseboard moldings in two rooms that didn't need new moldings. Instead of owning up to the error and replacing the moldings, he added insult to injury by blaming me for his mistake. He then asked that I pay him for the work, which had not been approved.

When dealing with your Mustang, how can you be sure the guy working on your car isn't going to flake out like the guy I mentioned above? No doubt, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find good folks who do quality work. Even more difficult to find good customer service. My advice?

The folks at Ford recently made waves with a full page ad featured in the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The ad features Swimsuit model Dalena Henriques and the new 2013 Mustang. Let's just say the Mustang gets more than its fair share of attention. Nice job Ford. Great to see someone focusing on the right things for a change.

2013 Ford Mustang Pricing Released

Last week pricing for the 2013 Ford Mustang began to surface. According to reports, some models will cost less than 2012, while others, like the 2013 Boss 302 Mustang, will cost more than the previous model year. The 2013 Boss 302 Mustang is said to start at $42,995 (in 2012 it cost $40,995), with the Laguna Seca model starting at $49,990. Speaking of the Boss, remember those Recaro seats that debuted in the 2012 model? Well, they can be added to almost any Mustang in the 2013 model year for a cool $1,595. Looking for a Gotta Have It Green exterior? That's an additional $495. Meanwhile, the new Mustang GT Track pack will set you back $2,495.

2012 Mustang Calendar of Events

We're not even through February yet, but I've got my mind on the upcoming Mustang Show season. You know, warmer weather, polished ponies, and longer days with family.

Some "must attend" events on my list include Shelby American's 50th Celebration March 14-17th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Then there's the 27th Annual Fabulous Fords Forever Knotts Show on April 22nd here in the Los Angeles area. Let's not forget the Ford/Shelby Mid-America Meet June 13-17th, Mustang Week down in South Carolina July 16-22nd, and the Mustang Club of America's Grand National which takes place in Mustang, Oklahoma August 31 - September 2nd. No doubt, it's sure to be another exciting show season. See you there!

Ford Mustang Boss 302 Named MotorWeek 2012 Drivers' Choice Best of the Year

Good news for Boss 302 fans. This week the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 received MotorWeek's "Best of the Year" 2012 Drivers' Choice Award. MotorWeek, television's longest running automotive series, has presented its Drivers' Choice Awards annually since 1983.

"We are honored to receive this award for the Boss 302," said Dave Pericak, Mustang Chief Engineer. "Our goal was to pay homage to the heritage of this vehicle while transforming it into a world-class sports car recognized for its handling and track capabilities. It's a fun job and I attribute the product's success to the Mustang enthusiasts and fans who help us improve with each and every model."

In addition to being recognized as the best overall among winners in 14 lifestyle categories, the Mustang Boss 302 also won as "Best Performance Car."

"We here at MotorWeek were left almost speechless that this rear-drive American muscle car is so extremely refined and works so seamlessly with the driver," said MotorWeek host and executive producer John Davis. "The Mustang Boss 302 is the best example this year of a car where all aspects of engineering come together. As a total package, the Mustang Boss 302 is just an outstanding ride."

You can watch a special episode of MotorWeek, featuring the awards, airing on PBS beginning February 11, 2012, and on cable's Velocity beginning February 21, 2012.

Ford Celebrates 20th SVT Anniversary with 2013 GT500 Convertible

Back in 1992, Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) launched their first creations, a 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra and a SVT F-150 Lightning, at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show. This week, some twenty years later, the company celebrated its 20th Anniversary by revealing the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible.

"The Shelby GT500 convertible is every bit the performer that the coupe is," said Kerry Baldori, SVT Global Performance Vehicles chief engineer. "All of the significant changes we made in the program were instrumental in delivering a convertible that could really shine on the track but can still be driven on a daily basis."

Ford reports that, in honor of SVT's anniversary, a commemorative lighted sill plate will be used in the 2013 Shelby GT500 to celebrate the many years of performance vehicles. They went on to note that their 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra offered a 235-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine. Meanwhile, the 2013 Shelby GT500 offers a 650-horsepower V8 engine. No doubt, they've come a long way in their quest for more performance and power. Team SVT, job well done. This guy is very thankful for all that you've done in the past two decades. That said, I'm sure I'm not alone in my thoughts.

The Cooper Zeon RS3-A Tire Named a Consumers Digest Best Buy

Last year around this time I traveled down to Pearsall, Texas to test out Cooper's new Zeon RS3-S and RS3-A tires. We put the tires through a complete day of testing on both a dry and wet track road course at Cooper's 1,000 acre facility using 2011 Ford Mustangs, automatic transmissions, with V6 engines. When all was said and done, I walked away impressed (Full Review).

It comes as no surprise that the folks at Consumers Digest recently named the Cooper RS3-A tire as a Best Buy in their current issue. How exactly do they define a "Best Buy"? Well, according to the publication, a Consumers Digest Best Buy is defined as a product that delivers exceptional value for a given amount of money and is awarded to fewer than three percent of the competing models in any given product category. The editors there said the RS3-A delivered the "best braking and hydroplaning resistance," along with "the quietest ride of any [other] performance tire."

The Cooper Zeon RS3-A (All-Season) tire features a wide sweeping elliptical groove for winter traction performance, 3D micro gauge sipes, and lateral grooves for wet and light snow performance.

Speaking of tires, the BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDWS all-seasons on my Bullitt Mustang are due to be replaced in the coming months. Looks like it's time to start tire shopping. That said, the RS3 is definitely on my list of contenders.

Readers' Rides: Dawn's 2008 Ford Mustang GT

Last week we received our latest "Readers' Rides" submission. This week's ride is a sharp looking 2008 Ford Mustang GT Coupe. The car features tinted windows, side widow louvers, side vent skirts, and a ROUSH cold air intake. The owner's husband found the car online, and the rest is history. Most impressive? The owner has done all the work on their own. No professional installers and no install fees. Their advice regarding V8 or V6? "Buy it (a V8) and you won't regret it! I really like the horsepower difference from a V6 to a V8." Read more.

Ford Mustang Sales Climb in January

Good news! On Wednesday Ford Motor Company released their January 2012 sales figures. How did the Mustang do? Well, in January of this year Ford sold 3,736 Mustangs. In January of 2011 they sold 3,165. That's a year-over-year increase of 18 percent.

In a press statement the company reported the Ford brand totaled 131,589 vehicles in January, making it the best January sales month for the Ford brand since 2008.

"January started off with solid sales versus year-ago levels," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. "Ford saw the same solid month, with smaller vehicles in higher demand. Escape continued its record-setting run, and Focus set the pace for car sales in California, Texas and the Southeast."

There was no specific mention of the Mustang, but that's okay. Sales increased over last year. Not much to complain about here. Only hope that upward climb continues.
