Doodle 4 Google Scholarship Contest

Google is looking for "doodlers" in grades K-12 for its "Doodle 4 Google" competition - another creative scholarship contest.

To enter, re-design the Google logo with the theme "If I could travel in time, I'd visit...". Entries must be postmarked by March 23, 2012. Check the contest website for the rules for entering. The winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and his or her school will get a $50,000 technology grant. Plus, the doodle will appear on the Google homepage

With all the rescheduling of Mardi Gras Parades, today, Sunday Feb, 19, 2011,might be the day with the most parades ever. Nomtoc, a long time westbank krewe will parade on the eastbank St. Charles route, starting early, at 9 a.m.. Do you know what NOMTOC means?

Greasing of the Poles for Mardi Gras

The annual Greasing of the Poles in anticipation of Mardi Gras is tomorrow (Feb 17, 2012) at 10 a.m. at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in the French Quarter. The Royal Sonesta started this practice decades ago to prevent people from climbing up or down the balcony poles during Mardi Gras, and other French Quarter places now also grease their poles. The pole greasing has evolved into a ceremony, a tradition and a street party. Another only in New Orleans event.

--Wednesday Night at the Mardi Gras in New Orleans:

Despite the weather, the brand new all-women Krewe of Nyx , ventured in the Carnival night just like its namesake the goddess of the night. The Muses throw unique glitter shoes and the Nyx ladies have created unique handbags as their ultimate signature throw. Reportedly, Nyx was born in part at least because Muses had a waiting list and the ladies didn't want to wait anymore. And guess what - Nyx is so popular, it already has its own waiting list, along with plans to expand next year.
