Skateboarding "Almost Certain" in 2012 Olympics

The 2012 Olympics are this summer, and once again, the question surfaces - should skateboarding be included? This year looks like the time the answer might finally be YES!

The London Evening Standard reported that, "The International Olympic Committee held talks with skateboard officials in Switzerland this week to agree a timetable for the sport's inclusion." Now, there's a lot of suspicious talk in that sentence... who are "skateboard officials"? Why are they in Switzerland?? And, is skateboarding now a "sport"?!

Rob Dyrdek Kickflips a Car During Superbowl

If you watched the Super Bowl, then hopefully you caught the Chevy Sonic commercial, where Rob Dyrdek drives the new Chevy Sonic car off a ramp and does a sort of barrel roll with it, landing it perfectly! See the Chevy Sonic commercial for yourself. The commercial calls it a kickflip, and it's awesome! The carflip was performed at Magic Mountain. You'll also see them do several over ridiculous things with the car, but seeing Rob Dyrdek represent for skateboarding just warms my heart.

Learn to Kickflip, and Look Awesome

For many skaters, the kickflip is the trick that tells the world that you don't just skate - you're good at skateboarding! But kickflips are HARD! You need to know how to ollie, and be able to do it consistently, and high. Plus, you need to have great balance and board control. And finally, you need to be OK with falling and getting hurt. And maybe, if you're lucky, the board will hit you in the crotch. A lot.

Helmets, Your Brain, and Saving Money

Skateboarding helmets are a sticky issue - lots of skaters hate to wear them, lots of parents think their kids should, and lots of tax payers would rather pass a law requiring helmets than trust you to not be stupid. This Weekend - Element's Make it Count Contest Hits Sacramento

This weekend, Element Skateboards' Make it Count contest will ravage the Epic Skate Park in the Sacramento area, California. This contest is open to any skater, and costs one canned food item to get in. It's a jam session format, with a 13 and under division, and a 14 and up division. The winner gets into the 2012 finals, Element YMCA Skate Camp, and a trip to the Berrics! So, if you're on the West Coast and can get your grubby mitts on a can of beans, head to Sacramento this weekend! Registration starts at noon, and the contest begins at 1 PM.
