California Bill Burdens Ski Resorts

On Monday, the California state Senate passed a bill - SB564 - that would require California ski resorts to prepare and post an annual safety plan on their websites. The bill, which passed 24 - 8 along party lines, would require ski resorts to prepare a report that includes information about accident-prevention efforts and operational standards. It is a slightly revised version of a bill Governor Jerry Brown vetoed, calling that measure "unnecessary" and said the state did not need to get involved.

From east to west there is still resort skiing available. Up in Maine, Sugarloaf is open while Killington and Sugarbush in Vermont are still spinning lifts. In the Midwest, Mt Bohemia in upper Michigan has reopened for at least this weekend - maybe more.
